Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Salim Mvurya, has assured visitors arriving in the country ahead of the 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) that their safety is secure.
The Kenya Airports Authority, in partnership with the CHAN Local Organising Committee (LOC), implemented robust arrangements to ensure full compliance with protocols, clear signage and efficient logistics for the arrival of delegations and visitors attending the tournament slated to kick off from this Saturday, August 2, to August 30.
Speaking after touring Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Thursday, Mvurya further assured that they are now actively monitoring incoming teams and guests, with well-coordinated transport systems in place to ensure smooth transfer to their respective destinations.
‘Designated areas at JKIA have been prepared to handle these arrivals shamelessly. We are now actively monitoring incoming teams and guests, with well-coordinated transport systems in place to ensure smooth transfer to their respective destinations,” said Mvurya on behalf of the Kenyan government.
He added: “Kenya’s points of entry are well aligned and secured to receive international visitors and tourists during this period.”
Mvurya, who was accompanied by Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi, Youth Affairs & Creative Economy, Fikirini Jacobs, Kenya Airports Authority Acting CEO Dr. Muhamud Gedi and CHAN Kenya LOC Chairman Nicholas Musonye.
“There will be no entry into the stadium without a valid digital ticket. No physical ticket will be sold at the two host venues,” he warned.

Mvurya further thanked the LOC led by Musonye for the dedication to deliver a successful tournament and called on Kenyans to turn out in large numbers and make CHAN a tournament to remember.
“I convey my appreciation to the LOC for their synergy, dedication and energy as they work tirelessly to deliver a world-class event,” said Mvurya, adding: “Let us turn out in large numbers and proudly showcase our passion and enthusiasm for football and make this a memorable tournament.”
Morocco became the first nation to arrive for the tournament.
The two-time champions stand out as one of the most successful countries in the competition, having won the tournament in back-to-back editions on home soil in 2018 and again in Cameroon in 2021.
The Atlas Lions are drawn in a tough Group A alongside hosts Kenya, Angola, Zambia, and DR Congo. They will kick off their campaign against Angola next Sunday at the Nyayo National Stadium.
